4. Summer Is Here and We Are Restocking the Online Store!

The crew awaiting the trot back to their trucks after a branding at the Fort Union Ranch in early June.

Hello everyone,

I hope you all are enjoying these summer days before they quickly pass and turn into crispy fall mornings. I just wanted to stop in to give you some updates and let you know what’s going on here at Sol Ranch. Right now we are transitioning out of the busy spring season of working stock on neighboring ranches as well as our own. This year I attended a record of 18 calf brandings and one lambing working. This was an amazing season of meeting up with neighboring ranches a couple times a week to use the specialized skills we’ve each developed over many years for tending to the needs of livestock as they join each herd a few weeks after birth.

Mornings start during this season with a 2-3 am wakeup, loading a horse and traveling to a neighboring ranch, working until midday and sharing a meal and fellowship with neighbors, then traveling home early afternoon to take a short break before heading out to attend to our own animals and chores until dark and then turning around to wake up early the next day. At each branding, calves receive vaccines, ear tags, brands, are castrated if need be, and are thoroughly looked over before being returned to their mothers for the rest of the summer. We are genuinely so very appreciative of the community we get to be a part of here in the Wagon Mound area. The culture of agriculture is quite strong here and the support and camaraderie we experience with our neighbors carries us through each year.

Now that this season is wrapping up, we will turn out our bulls with the ladies in 10 days and let the next cycle begin while this current cycle continues. Next we’ll move cattle around and settle them into moving between pastures as part of following the grazing plan. As the grass comes on, steers fattening on grass are steadily being hauled to the processor for harvest so we can fill both wholesale and custom orders for all of you.

Guess this what this means! You got it! The freezers are finally being restocked with some ground beef and steak bundles! We are also introducing some specials for items in our freezer that we are getting a little overstocked with. We’re starting off with back ribs. These great little packages of back ribs fit in a crockpot or can be easily cooked on the grill. They are so tasty and really show off that summer flavor that we Americans hold so dear right next to watermelon and ice cream.

Thanks to so many of you who have reached out to ask when we will have more beef. We are always thrilled to have these requests since it shows us how much you look forward to eating our beef. As a show of our appreciation for your loyalty and patience with us here at Sol Ranch through our busy season, I’d like to offer you a discount of 5% off your next order with code NMSOL5. Please click over to the store to see what we have but hurry since it will go fast.

As always, thank you for supporting Sol Ranch! Enjoy your summer and we’ll see you at the next delivery on July 18.

Cheers!
